LINK to this map on google drive

The map being analyzed is of the Percent Family households in the Unites States. On this map, you can see that there is a large cluster of 71.8% to 86.6%  in the west side of Texas. In general, there is a large percentage of families in the Southwest. Along the South and Atlantic Coast, a little more than half of the population has families living there. In Minnesota, the Twin Cities area has many families, but in St. Paul or Minneapolis, there are hardly any families residing there.

I hypothesize that there are many families in the west side of Texas because that side shares borders with Mexico. Legal aliens might cross the border with their families, but not want to go too far into the U.S., so they stay on the border. In the Southwest, there is the state of Utah, which is known to have many Mormons; the fact that their are multiple Mormons living their could contribute to how many families are in that region. Minnesota might have fewer families living in St. Paul or Minneapolis (Hennepin County and Ramsey County) because those are major cities that may have more apartments than homes. Apartments might not be as suitable for having a family in than homes, so all around St. Paul and Minneapolis are suburban areas, where families can live.

In the regions most populated with families, there can be different things seen than in a region with few families. For example, there may be many more schools in the areas with families, seeing as their children need to be educated. There might be bigger houses, so that a family could live there without being confined in a small area. There may even be more furniture stores, since the bigger the family, the more furniture will be needed in the household. All of these can be accounted for having families in an area.
